Stremio Add-ons Explained — Catalogs That Point MIRA at Sources

A Stremio add-on is a small package that gives a player a browsable catalog and tells it where to find streams for each title. Add-ons don't host content themselves — they're more like directories that point at sources (your debrid account, direct torrents, public archives, etc.). MIRA Player reads add-ons and uses them to populate your catalog and resolve playback.

What a Stremio add-on actually is

Under the hood, an add-on is just a small web service described by a file called manifest.json. The manifest tells the player:

• - What catalogs the add-on offers (movies, series, anime, etc.).
• - What metadata it can provide (posters, descriptions, episode lists).
• - What streams it can resolve for a given title, and how.

When you add an add-on to a player, you're really giving the player the manifest URL — a web address where that manifest.json lives. The player fetches it, reads the capabilities, and uses the add-on from then on.

This is a clean, modular design. Each add-on does one thing (a catalog, a stream resolver, a metadata source), and a player like MIRA combines many of them into one unified browse-and-play experience.

The manifest URL concept

To add an add-on, you need its manifest URL — a link that ends in something like /manifest.json. Examples look like:

That's it. One URL. You paste it into MIRA, MIRA fetches the manifest, and the add-on's catalogs and streams become available.

Where do you get manifest URLs?

• - Official Stremio add-on directory. Stremio maintains a public catalog of add-ons

at its official site. Browsing there is the standard starting point.

• - Community add-on catalogs and listings. Various community-run sites and GitHub

repos collect and categorize add-ons. Quality and safety vary — stick to widely-used, well-reviewed add-ons.

• - Direct from an add-on's own site. Many add-on authors publish their manifest URL

on a project page or repository README.

Neutral note: add-ons are a format, not a verdict on what they point at. Some

add-ons resolve streams through legitimate paid services (like a debrid account you

control). Others point at public archives or peer-to-peer sources of varying legality.

MIRA reads whatever add-on you give it. **What an add-on resolves, and whether that's

legal in your country, is your responsibility.**

How add-ons fit with your other sources

Add-ons shine when combined with a debrid service. The common, fast pattern:

1. 2. You add a catalog add-on (e.g., a popular movies/series catalog).
2. 3. When you pick a title, the add-on finds candidate files and MIRA resolves them

through your debrid service at full speed.

Without a debrid service, some add-ons can still resolve streams directly (often via direct torrents or public sources), but speed and reliability vary. Pairing add-ons with debrid is what gives the smooth, instant-playback experience most people want.

How to add a Stremio add-on in MIRA

1. 1. Open MIRA and go to Sources.
2. 2. Choose Stremio Add-on.
3. 3. Paste the manifest URL for the add-on.
4. 4. Hit Test. MIRA fetches the manifest and checks it's valid.
5. 5. If the test passes, hit Add. The add-on's catalogs appear in your browse sections.

You can add multiple add-ons. MIRA merges their catalogs and resolves streams across all of them, with automatic failover if one source struggles.

Tips

• - Start with one or two popular catalog add-ons and expand from there. Too many

add-ons can make the catalog noisy without adding much.

• - Pair with debrid for the best experience (see

• - If a manifest URL fails to load, the add-on's server may be down or the URL may

have changed. Check the add-on's source page for an updated URL.
